Pantheon for Filipino heroes in the Cementerio del Norte.
Built before World War II, this one houses the remains of
Generals Pio del Pilar & other First Republic officials
Gen. PIO del Pilar is a hero??? Makatotohanan ba yon?
Hmmph. Here's a mini-overview of the place of Gen. Pio del Pilar in Philippine history:
TODAY in HISTORY- 8 JUNE
1900 - Gen. Pio del Pilar, a controversial officer of the First Philippine Republic, is taken prisoner at Guadalupe, Rizal by imperialist United States forces during the Philippine-American War; Gen. Pio del Pilar, who earlier fatally betrayed Katipunan Supremo Andres Bonifacio and switched to the side of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo who had grabbed the leadership of the Revolution against Spain, will later also betray Gen. Artemio Ricarte's attempt to reunite Filipino military generals and rekindle the fire of the Philippine Revolution, this time against the Bald Eagle invaders.

ReplyDeleteadditional info from a historian friend:
ReplyDeletePio del Pilar is not related to Gregorio del Pilar. Pio was born and raised in Manila, and his real last name is Castañeda. Gregorio was born and raised in Bulakan...and yes he is the nephew of the great Marcelo del Pilar(brother to Gregorios father). Gregorio is from a prominent family on both his mother and fathers side. Gregorio also had family that took part in the Phil-Am War...his brother Julian was a Colonel, and his cousin Juan was an officer(also died in battle). The Bulakan Brigade, which they were all apart of, were considered one of the more organized, loyal, and elite units.
Licerio Geronimo was exhumed from the Mousoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion. He is no longer buried there. But the mousleum is still filled with other generals, high ranking officers, and other notable figures of the 1st Republic.
http://theaprblog.blogspot.com/History condemns these barbaric acts, He (E, Aguinaldo) also gave orders to assassinate the undersigned to Generals Severino Taino and Pio del Pilar who did not obey the said orders for considering them infamous, unjust, and without any motive, whatever. It was nothing more than a mean and despicable order.
